Hi All,
I’ll be participating in the Open Engagement – held at the Queens Museum this year – in the following three ways, all taking place on Saturday, May 17th:
1. Between 2:00 – 2:10 PM I’ll be presenting on the Sunview Luncheonette along with Todd Lester of Lanchonete.org, a project for social space and residency in central São Paulo. Yes, that’s right, 10 whole minutes devoted to tales of two Luncheonettes.
2. Between 2:30 – 4:00 pm, I will be traveling with the wonderful artist/organizers Sally Szwed and Chloë Bass to Black Heritage Reference Center at the Langston Hughes Community Library and Cultural Center in Corona Queens, which is in and of itself a remarkable and inspiring piece of history, to give a short presentation on one object in the BHRC’s collection.
3. From 9:00 pm on, I will be co-hosting an evening at the Sunview Luncheonette along with the above-mentioned Todd Lester and friends, including guest chef Thiago Carrapatoso of the Baixo Centro festival in Brazil. More information on that, below:

The Sunview Luncheonette and Lanchonete.org co-host a feijoada (a traditional Brazilian Saturday meal) at The Sunview Luncheonette on the evening of May 17th as part of their respective reimagining of places of popular consumption (e.g. the lunch counter – a type of restaurant that is present in many cultures around the world) – as the basis for communal bonding, sharing, class transcendence, and mutual aid. Hosted by Dylan Gauthier (Sunview Luncheonette) and Todd Lester (Lanchonete.org), with guest chef Thiago Carrapatoso (artist, activist, and organizer of the Baixo Centro movement in São Paulo), and additional guests TBD.
